A thrilling late fight back today seen us come away from Golcar Utd with a 4-3 win and a massive three points.
For the opening thirty five minutes we was way off it today conceding a penalty after just five and then on the twenty fifth minute it was two nil with the build up to both goals awful from our point of view.
At times we had lads doing what they wanted to do and not what there told and with the ball being pumped into the box at every opportunity and poorly also it’s fair to say we wasn’t best pleased in the dugout.
For the last ten minutes of the half we did get a few better chances with Declan Daniels going close with a header the pick of them but a poor half of football from us came to a end soon after.
HT 2-0
A change at half time Mitchell Culshaw being replaced by debutant John Mcgrath had the desired effect and we got ourselves back in the game with right back Jamie Morton scrambling one home.
We was pushing hard for a equaliser and went close on a few occasions with Matty Corness near scoring with his first touch after coming on to replace Declan Daniels his left foot strike went agonisingly close to the far post.
We continued to push but found ourselves further behind when a cracking delivery from the Golcar winger was met by a equally cracking header from the front man 3-1 and it looked like curtains with just fifteen remaining.
All credit to the lads for what came next and the gaffer of course for making the last attacking substitute with Lee Hughes replacing Jay Cottrell.
With twelve minutes to go the lads rolled up there sleeves and produced as good a comeback as you will ever see.
Jamie Menagh was at the forefront of this and after a much better second half from Jamie he took his performance up a notch and on the 78th/90th minutes produced two bits of magic.
Jinking in both times from the left and dispatching finishes not many keepers could save due to the power and precision in the strikes putting both out of reach of the superb Golcar keeper.
Settle for a point in the 90th minute nope not these lads and after a clearance found Lee Hughes in the centre of the park he broke the deep Golcar lines with a great pass and Joe Lynch was tasked with creating a bit of magic and didn’t he deliver.
Lynchy had the cleverness to ride a tackle when most would have looked for a penalty and coming in on the angle he lifted a cracking finish into the roof of the net to set of wild celebrations all over the pitch and stands.
The final whistle came a minute later and the comeback was completed “WOW”
FT 4-3
Would have been easy to roll over at 3-1 make excuses and put it down to one of them days but these lads and many of them new to the club showed what they have inside them and it’s pleasing and encouraging to see they have that desire and determination to make sure if they go down they go with a fight and today that fight rewarded them with a massive 3pts.
Some outstanding performances second half with Mick Douglas and Joe Lynch getting us on the front foot but it was the quality of Jamie Menagh that got the MOM vote and his performance was admired by those supporters from both sides.
Massive thanks to those who were permitted inside the ground today your support as always is greatly appreciated and the lads were told at half time that support needs to see more and they delivered just that.
It’s now onto Nelson away Wednesday night which will be another tough test for the lads but one we now go bouncing into.
We Go Again.
