A great 5-0 win to start the season against Ashton Town in horrendous wet weather.
In all honesty we didn’t start the best and Ashton had two glorious chances to grab the lead but a stunning save by Josh Molloy was quickly followed by a stupendous piece of defending from Ricky Ager.
Both there actions were rewarded soon after up the other end when Declan Daniels and Jamie Menagh linked up to give us the lead.
Menagh being shown on the outside to play on his weaker foot beat his man and from the bye line delivered a great ball for Declan to tap home.
Declan grabbed his second six minutes later when Jamie Menaghs shot rebounded to the Dec’s feet and after it looked to have got away from him he reacted quicker than the keeper and toe poked home from close range.
Joe White then whipped in a fantastic corner and it flew straight into the back of the net and that was then followed by another cracking corner deliver from Whitey that hit the post and was turned home by big John Shaw (Dubious goals panel review).
HT 4-0
Second half had that feeling of job being done and while not being happy to settle with that it was tough for the lads in the conditions to get themselves going again after the break.
The introduction of three lads late on had the desired effect and we looked to play some great football once more and a majestic ball from John Keatley to Joe Lynch seen Joe go one on one with the keeper and he lifted over a stunning finish to wrap the game up.
FT 5-0
All in all a great way to start the new campaign and with the lads still gelling as a group we have every confidence this set of lads will only get better as the season progresses.
MOM today was Joe Lynch who put in a massive shift in both half's of the pitch and capped it off with a eye catching finish.
A special mention too all our volunteers for today as we all no the pressure heaped on the clubs/volunteers due to the Covid issues causing many headaches but we done a great job in horrible conditions to meet the demands and we will only get better as the games go by.
Supporters once against we thank you for braving the elements and getting out in good numbers to show your support goes without saying much love to you all.
Up next it’s Atherton LR at home on Thursday night let’s hope we can get another good attendance and some better weather also.
It’s good to be back folks.
We Go Again.
