Hunger, Fight, Desire Goes A Long Way...

A much-needed win yesterday and a performance of hunger, fight and pure graft got us the 3 points.

Started the game well and was on the front foot pressing Chasetown in all areas of the pitch.

Two excellent deliveries from Will McNulty should have produced an opener, but Sam Burns was just a step away from converting both.
Sam made no mistake with his third opportunity to get on the end of one when Terence Miles sent the ball forward, Burnsey put pressure on the second ball and as the defender undercooked a header back he pounced on it and made no mistake slotting under the keeper.

Chasetown had an opportunity not long after when a defensive clearance up the field put the frontman on one v one but a big save from Jacob and the rebound was skied over the bar.

Once again some great opportunity’s from set pieces with headers just being misjudged and Elliott Hughes also cracked the outside of the post, but it was half we were more than happy with.

HT 1-0

The second half couldn’t have started any worse with Sam Burns feeling a twinge in his hamstring so he made way for Teddy Woolland.

The game got a little nervey, but we were doing well, but goal kick up the middle of the pitch was easily headed out to the left and with the winger driving at Cooper he cut one back for what was a scruffy but easy tap in, a really soft goal to concede.

We had a battle on our hands and battle we did and when a clipped ball from Connor Millington was majestically headed (Elliott Hughes) into the path of Will Lawson he sent home a composed finish to get us back In front.

More injury woes when Danny McKenna also felt a twinge in his hammy, but Jacko Burns came on and put in a battling shift himself.

Whilst it was digging in deep time we also had some excellent opportunities to wrap the game up but blocks from defenders and a last man take out of Elliott Hughes stopped us from doing so, a red card for Chasetown came in the back of the tackle on El.

FT 2-1

A win we needed and a performance we needed also and after the hunger & desire had been questioned this last week, we certainly couldn’t fault any lad yesterday.

Sadly it’s 5 injuries this month and it’s says a lot about the scheduling of fixtures with clubs forced to play rearranged games after having good cup runs (the price you pay) but you only get a small window to rearrange and whilst there is plenty of midweek dates in the calendar were forced to play 10 games in just over 4 weeks and your seeing the effects on working lads bodies.

The Probe Services MOM went to Elliott Hughes who was quality across the frontline and his vision for the knockdown for the second goal says it all.

As always tremendous vocal support dragging us over the line and we thank those who made it along to back the boys to a much needed 3 points.

It’s another Tuesday night on the road when we head to Newcastle Town looking for another big away performance
We Go Again.
