But Three Points Taken On The Road

An eventful away win yesterday beating Sporting Khalsa 4-3 when it really should have been curtains before the drama.

First 40 minutes of the game we were first class all over with the pattens and rotations causing all kinds of problems for Khalsa who fair to say helped with a gift or two, the first one of those gifts coming from a OG after great work from Liam Morris on the right hand side seen him deliver a ball, the keeper spilled it and the defender somehow knocked it into his own net.

We had to wait half hour for the next goal, but it’s fair to say we could and should have had another 4/5 before it came but still a great ball from Jordan Barrow put Paddy Kay in, and he made no mistake lobbing the onrushing keeper.

The chances kept coming and Lewis Buckley grabbed our third from a Paddy Kay assist and Alex Chehera was unlucky to see his effort crash of the bar & post.

Paddy Wharton was called into action making a good save from a rare sporting shot, and he dealt with the resulting corner also.

HT 3-0

Second half started like the first with opportunities coming, and we found the fourth after good link up from Chehera & Kay, Sam Burns found himself in and he made no mistake.

A lifeline was presented to Khalsa when Lewis Buckley miscontrolled a ball on the halfway line which helped put them on the front foot, and they took the chance well.
More chances followed for ourselves, Sam Burns going through after a great run but was unable to finish and Alex Chehera blasted high over with another excellent chance.

Khalsa kept going and got a second after what looked like a foul on Jordan Barrow it wasn’t given, but the goal certainly was game on, and it got even more interesting when two mistakes gifted our hosts a third, Billy Edmondson misjudged a ball on the edge of the box and with the shot spinning Paddy couldn’t get a strong enough hand to keep it out.

Lewis Buckley had two more opportunities to give us some breathing space, but both were wasted when he had to do better.

A nervey ending but we seen the game out and it woud have been unjust if we didn’t come away with those three points that’s for sure.

FT 4-3
For 40 minutes in the first half and patches in the second we was first class , that first 40 seen some of the best football we have played in a very long time with confidence on the ball there for all to see, sadly when tired legs and minds came in we let ourselves down but after tough week we have to take the many positives and look to address the little issues we brought on ourselves yesterday.

MOM went to Liam Morris who was outstanding yet again at right back and for 40 minutes especially he ran the game, also a mention for 17 year old Connor Murphy, only his second start for the club (first in league) and he showed all his qualities in the middle of the park.

What can I say about the away support that I’ve not said already, from the first to last minute they backed us all the way and when the going got tough late on was great to hear them trying to drag the lads through it, class as always.

Up next we welcome Nantwich Town to the Anny as we look to keep a foot down on the title race and look to keep those behind us exactly that, hope you can come and join us.

We Go Again.
