Back to winning ways with a 1-0 win at home to Runcorn Linnets.
Not your typical tight one nil encounter with chances a plenty, and we should have taken the lead though two unbelievable opportunities for Lewis Buckley who on another day takes them both comfortably.
Linnets also had there big moment of the half when Theo was forced into a brave low down block and with the ball falling to Steele you expected it to hit the net, but he dragged the shot wide.
Chances for Burns, Cherera, Hughes and a Cookson header all came and went, and somehow we went on all square at the break.
HT 0-0
Within two minutes of the restart we got the slice of luck that has deserted us in recent weeks when a Dan Lowey cross was deflected into the back of the net by the substitute Linnets defender, to be fair if he didn’t try to block it we had two men over to tap it in.
Linnets piled it on, but the big chances were falling to us on the back of some great movement and football but once again we seen big chances go begging with Alex Cherera agonisingly scrapping the outside of the post twice, Sam Burns and Elliott Hughes also could have wrapped it up but dragged there efforts the wrong side of the post also.
Linnets biggest moment of the second half seen another chance for Steele, but his header from six yards out thankfully went straight into the arms of Theo.
FT 1-0
A flattering scoreline for Linnets, but we can’t forget they had two big chances also, but on another day we could have hit five or six with the clear-cut chances we created , but I’ve spoken all week about the need for a clean sheet, and we got that and the all important goal to win the game.
The MOM vote went to James Cooper who didn’t put a foot wrong against two very good frontmen, there were many other contenders on the day, it was the type of team performance.
A great crowd down at the Anny and maybe our biggest one this season, and it’s fair to say it helped with the atmosphere and with our loyal support in fine voice also, it was great to get back to winning ways for them.
Also, a mention for those who travelled with Linnets and in great numbers, not there day but a very respectful bunch who gave us all the credit we deserved, I certainly wish you all well for the run in.
Next up we go to Witton Albion on Tuesday night as we look to back the result up with another big away performance, we hope you can join us.
We go again.
Up The Breck.
