Another excellent 3pts on the road, beating Vauxhall Motors 3-2 on Boxing Day.
Really pleased with how we started the game as we looked clam & composed in possession and straight away created space in the final third with the passing and movements causing our hosts problems.
We took the lead in the eighth minute when Sam Burns mishit / sliced a shot backwards but with the ball falling to Liam Morris he took a touch to set himself and then sent home a quality finish with his leg peg, great start.
Motors weren’t put off from our great start as they looked to get a foot on the ball with their main threats coming down the right-hand side with ex Breck payer Jawad Jebrin one of their main targets.
We should have made it two when a cut back from Lewis Buckley put it on a plate for Sam Burns, but a last ditch challenge was enough to force Sam’s chance to be scuffed just wide of the post.
Plenty of decent enough opportunities came and went before debutant goalkeeper Shea Callister was forced into action, and he produced a stunning save from a ferocious shot, a match winning moment right there.
HT 1-0
The second half seen the metal being hit at both ends with us hitting the post and bar, Sam Burns cracking the top of the crossbar before Jordan Barrow hit the outside of the post when the ball fell to him from a corner.
It was Motor's turn to hit the inside of the post, which proved to be the springboard for our second goal of the game.
After the ball was cleared, motors sent it forward again it fell to keeper Shea Callister who picked out Alex Cherera with a side winding kick up field and over to Alex who done the rest, beating his man for pace and beat ing the keeper in his one v one dual.
Just when it looked like we had control of the game and a near third goal we stopped to question a decision and within thirty seconds it was two one when a well worked counter-attack resulted in a very tidy finish.
With motors pushing for an equaliser it was our turn to use the spaces provided and when Liam Morris put the ball in a great area for Alex Cherera he in turn was able to put it on a plate for Lewis Buckley who tapped home from close range.
Vauxhalls certainly wasn’t done and they managed to pull a goal back with a mirror image goal similar to Liam Morris’s in the first half, 3-2 and another nervey finish incoming.
Motors musta thought they had snatched a point late on when the big man Kev Ellison headed one down to the bottom corner and somehow Shea Callister produced another stunning save to push the ball away from goal, a match winning save simple as that.
FT 3-2
The games over Christmas are never easy and the sacrifices made from players, clubs and supporters is massive so when you win them away Boxing Day games it feels that little bit more special, all credit to the lads who put bodies on the line to get us over the line and another massive away win.
The MOM vote went to Danny McKenna, Danny has had to bide his time to come back into the side and hasn’t put a foot wrong in both starts since, put his body on the line for one tackle which on the back on he needed to come off, that typifies Danny’s attitude…
A mention for Shea Callister also who pulled off two absolute stunning saves, ones he had no right to keep out also…
Some support for us on the road once again and when there was very little public transport about they still got there in great numbers, special support who even brought out a rendition of Jingle Bells.
Up next we welcome Bootle to the Anny on Tuesday night, if you ain’t got any plans get down the Anny and come back the lads as we look for another massive win as we look to take another big win into 2026.
We Go Again…Merry Christmas
Up The Breck….
