Another 3pts on the road yesterday afternoon as we beat Wythenshawe Town 2-0.
In truth, we didn’t start the game particularly well, and It's easy to criticise the pitch as being a tough one to play football on, but I’d say Wythenshawe just dealt with it better than us and also used the ball better as was putting the ball in air way too much especially with the little wind there was in our faces not helping that at all.
That being said, the best two opportunities of the half fell to us with Tom Croughan being involved in both, the first one seen Alex Cherera hitting a strike that was a certain goal, but TC turned into a Town defender and couldn’t get outta the way quick enough as the goal bound ball smashed off him and away.
Tom then had a glorious chance to give us the lead when he was put through one v one, but he could only hit the keeper's body, and he knew he should have done better.
Not a great half from ourselves, but we knew we could certainly raise it in the second.
HT 0-0
We started the second half very well, with Alex Cherera unlucky not to give us the lead when he has seen his strike cannoned back of the post.
We were on the front foot and creating more space, but it wasn’t until the introduction of three substitutes (McKenna, Buckley & Dowling) that we finally punished Town.
Near instantly Danny McKenna played a cracking ball forward for Sam Burns and with Sam using his strength to hold off the defender he took it in on goal and finished it off with aplomb.
We were looking more dangerous out wide and with Cherera moved onto the left he was causing havoc and when he was put through via Burns he took it in on goal and cut one back (some say shot) for Lewis Buckley who tapped in from close range to seal the three points.
FT 2-0
Not vintage Breck by any stretch but another important win on the road and with some helpful results around us, we climb back to the top of the table
The Watch The Time MOM went to Sam Burns, a massive threat throughout the second half and took his goal exceptionally well.
A mention for Fraze Cookson & Alex Cherera who both had big performances also.
As always a massive thank you to those who made the trip with, yer again great numbers vocally backing us when it was needed.
It’s now onto Wednesday night when we host Congelton Town as we look to keep on the winning trail, we hope you can come join us down the Anny,
We Go Again.
Up The Breck…
