A rare defeat on the road last night seen us beaten 4-2 at Runcorn Linnets.
The first 25 minutes there wasn’t much in the game, but it came to life when the impressive Lewis Buckley was brought down for a penalty, up stepped Sam Burns who made no mistake.
Within two minutes a mistake from Connor Millington presented Linnets with a gift, and it was taken with a great finish.
An instant reaction seen Dan Lowey link up with Sam Burns and after Sam jinked away from a few bodies in the box he laid it off to Lewis Buckley who slammed the ball into the roof of the net with a right foot finish.
Another glorious opportunity followed, with Dan Lowey finding himself in acres of space on the left, but the final ball across the box could only find the keeper.
A first half that came to life late on.
HT 2-1
Second half only one team in the game, with Linnets making a change at half-time, and it had a massive effect on their second half performance.
The second goal is awful from our point of view with a corner delivered and the first and second contact being lost.
Third goal seen two centre mids taken outta the game with a throw in and a good finish came on the back of it, but we have to do better from the throw in and the shot also.
Fourth goal a cheap cross from the left followed up by a header with the individual battle lost the ball creeping into the corner.
We had two or three moments in the second half but the hunger, desire and fight was taken away from us via an excellent second half from Linnets so all credit to them.
FT 2-4
The first back to back defeats for the club since October 2024 shows you what type of run we have been on and as we still sit top of the league it on merit it tells you no knee-jerk reaction is needed but with injuries / unavailability hitting us all at once this L week we do need to look to strengthen and give the group a freshen up with quality to help us kick on once again.
The MOM vote to Lewis Buckley who was class first half and added another goal to his tally for the season, sadly Bucko seen the service to him disappear in the second half.
As always we were backed by fantastic support and no doubt we will see that support once again with us at Darlaston on Saturday afternoon as we look to get back to winning ways.
We Go Again.
