Another great day on the road, seen us leave Clitheroe with a deserved three points.
We got off to a flying start when Lewis Buckley took a ball down from Alex Cherera and just as Bucko was getting his shot off he was taken out from behind (it was a genuine attempt to play the ball) penalty awarded and slotted home.
After some great link up play Harry McGee had the next big chance, but his attempt was always rising and from then it’s fair to say both teams failed to get their foot on the ball to create any big chances but when we did, we were always looking the more dangerous of the two sides.
Right on the stroke of half-time we made it two, excellent work from Sam Burns jinking in from the left-hand side, he cut it back to Lewis Buckley who with his back to goal swivelled and got a shot off and with a slight deflection it hit the bottom corner.
HT 2-0
The second half started just like the first with Alex Cherera getting us off to a flyer after coming onto an excellent Connor Millington ball down the right-hand side, Alex took a great touch shifted the ball to his left and from 20 yards out sent home another cracking strike.
A drop-off in workrate seen us let Clitheroe back into the game and when a headed clearance wasn’t put safe a chest and volley (Stuart McCall 89) was sent home, great strike but should never have been given the opportunity.
The best move of the match followed with us moving the ball around well and when a Jordan Barrow back healed through ball put Bucko through you would have put your house on him to grab his hat trick, but his right footed attempt was scuffed wide.
Clitheroe started to put us under some pressure and with them now playing with three at the back they was getting their overload, and after we were caught flat-footed down the left a cross came over and was tapped home at the front post.
We had another glorious chance to wrap the game up going into added time, but Alex smashed his opportunity straight into the keeper's face, Clitheroe carried on pushing for an equaliser, but we stood firm and seen out the game to grab another away win.
FT 3-2
Made it hard for ourselves after going three up which was more than deserved to that point but another lesson for us for when we get in that position you certainly can’t take your foot off for a minute in this division, but once again massive credit to the lads for another big away performance and win on the road.
The Watch The Time MOM went to Frazer Cookson who won all his headers & battles against and coming up against a quality frontman also.
As always some quality support on the road with us and vocal throughout also, wasn’t easy for travel with some folks having to hop on and off trains to get there, seeing support like that is what makes the three points even more important.
Also a mention for the volunteers and club officials from Clitheroe who made us welcome from the minute we landed and were first class hosts on the day, fanatic welcome.
Up next it’s Friday night cup action as we travel to Staylbridge in the FA trophy, we hope you can come join us.
We go again.
