Another good performance seen us beat Stafford Rangers 2-0 to remain unbeaten in our first month in the NPL.
Stafford won the toss and turned us around the first half so we had the wind and rain battering us, but the lads produced a quality half of football despite the conditions.
At the heart of our quality in the first half was Liam Morris & Harry Mcgee and Dan Lowey with the trio linking up well throughout the half.
It was Liam Morris who was catching the eye even more as the half wore on and his run and delivery into the box set up the opening goal, with the cross putting it on a plate for Alex Cherera who grease his 6th league goal of the season.
We continued to play good football and deal with the elements, but we only took the one nil lead in at the break.
HT 1-0
Within a minute of the second half Sam Burns was put through on goal and as he attempted to go around the keeper he was brought down and with a straight red was issued to the Stafford number one, Burns stepped up to take the penalty and seen it saved by the replacement.
In truth, we wasn’t moving the ball as-well as we would have liked, especially against the ten men, but we were very rarely troubled and on his return to the squad for the first time since that splendid afternoon in May. Elliot Hughes came on the pitch and with his first touch got that killer second goal, a great through ball from Harry McGee and Elliot finished it off well (some return).
A flash point right at the end seen Liam Morris absolutely nailed and just when we all thought the Stafford man would receive red it was Morris who was dealt it for his retaliation on the floor, the Stafford player got a yellow which we are told after the game by the official's assessor should have been red.
Sad for Moz as he had been absolutely flying this month and on the back end of a poor tackle (it happens) he comes off the worst.
FT 2-0
Loads of positives from the game and with us having to move a few lads about due to Bucko’s unavailability we dealt with it well and with us untroubled at the back, grabbing a clean sheet it was a good day all round.
The Watch The Time MOM went to Jay Cooper who was solid once again at the back and brought his vocal leadership once again, a mention for Liam Morris who as said was first class playing in a different role.
As always a massive thank you to those in attendance with a great following from Stafford coming over for the game.
Up next it’s Sunday football as we travel to Pontefract Collieries in the FA Trophy next Sunday afternoon, we hope you can come and join us.
We Go Again.
Up The Breck.
