Another cracking night on the road as we come away from Atherton Colls 5–2 winners.
After a great start when we created two big chances, we gave a soft goal away when a comfortable clearance was made hard work off and Colls were able to get into the box and tap home with the ease.
The reaction to that from the lads was absolutely first class, and for the next forty plus minutes we moved the ball with confidence and looked a threat going forward every time.
The equaliser seen Sam Burns lay the ball off to Harry McGee and after H dropped a shoulder he caught the keeper off guard by going near post with the cat not being able to get down quick enough.
Some of the football that followed was excellent on the eye with lads linking up all over, and it wasn’t long before we got a deserved second with Sam Burns drilling a cracking strike home.
With the Colls right back on a yellow card from an earlier tackle we got at him again and after two players seemed to tangle he made a play for the ball with his hand and to everyone’s shock a second yellow was issued for deliberate handball , a real soft one but one you have to capitalize on.
We were looking good before the red and even better after it, but we had to settle for the goal lead at the break after a whole host of chances were missed, but the football to create them was classy.
HT 2-1
Second half we started a little slow and let Colls have a few moments when all we had to do was mange it better but a sucker punch for them came from an outstanding finish from Harry McGee who bagged his second overhead kick in a week and this one was even more acrobatic than the last.
We had chances to kill the game right off but massive credit to Colls they got themselves back into the game and grabbed a goal back, Theo pulling off a fantastic save and despite bodies on the line the ball ended up in the back of the net to make it game on.
More pressure followed but was well dealt with , we then missed a glorious chance to wrap it up when Sam Burns put it on a plate for Alex Cherera, but he scuffed his chance with the goal gapping, but it wasn’t long before he made amends beating defender and keeper to a ball outside the box and this time he made no mistake with the finish.
The game was wrapped up when man of the match Sam Burns chanced down the Colls keeper and as the cat went to send it forwards the block from Burns directed it goalwards and into the back of the net.
What an away performance on a Monday night.
FT 5-3
To score five away from home you gotta be happy and on another day it could have been double figures, most pleasing was some of the football we played, on the front foot, powerful and direct running and right up for the battle we faced, great performance from the lads.
The Watch The Time MOM went to Sam Burns who after the sad loss of a family member over the weekend put in a performance his family can certainly be proud of…well done Sam.
As always backed by some fantastic vocal support who drove the lads on all the way, we hope to see you all at the Anny on Saturday when we welcome Kidsgrove to the Anny.
We Go Again.
Up The Breck…
