As opening days go, yesterday couldn’t have gone any better with an away win and clean sheet to start the campaign.
First minute of the game the Moseley keeper was forced into a stunning save when Harry McGee struck a free kick that for all looked to be sailing in the top bin, but the keeper pulled off a fingertip save, his first of three in the first half.
First 15 minutes thought we right on it but Mossley started to put us under some pressure and Theo Roberts was forced into action and his double save was match winner worthy with both coming in 1v1 situations.
We settled ourselves and started to find some great areas and Sam Burns was the next player to be denied by the Mossley keeper with a fingertip save around the post and after first class work from Lewis Buckley & Sam we pressed high up the pitch and won the ball back and with Bucko had options either side of him, he went right to the impressive Alex Cherera who seen his first time shot saved by the strong arm of the Mossley keeper, another massive chance in a pretty eventful first half.
HT 0-0
Second half we stepped it up and put the ball on the floor in the tighter areas and on 50 minutes we got the deserved opener.
A classy ball from Liam Morris putting Alex Cherera in down the left-hand side, and after he cut back into the box it looked like he had his missed his chance to get his shot off, but he set himself again and managed to squeeze and shot past the defender and keeper.
We done all we could to get a second with some delightful play coming down the right-hand side with Morris, Burns & Cherera linking up on a few occasions with neat one touch football and Alex & Sam has massive chances to get that important second, but it wouldn’t come, and it was some nervey moments late on with Tom Mitchell having to put his body on the line and right at the death Frazer Cookson sensed the danger and got back onto the line to block a shot from close range.
Panic over and 3pts on the road to start the season.
FT 1-0
The build up to yesterdays game not only on the pitch but off it made the result feel even more special and for us it shows the character of the lads after last weeks disappointment to bounce back on a tricky away day opener.
The Watch The Time MOM vote went to Lewis Buckley, some shift from Bucko occupying the two centre half’s and covering some ground on a big pitch.
A mention for Alex Cherera also who was a threat throughout and on another day has a trick in his account.
Gotta say a massive thank you to Mossley for the cracking welcome and hospitality on the day, some lovely words before and after the game and they certainly went above and beyond to look after all.
Backed by some great travelling support once again and were delighted you got to take three points back with you on the car, train journeys home.
The first home game of the season on Wednesday night when we host Witton Albion 7.45 Kick Off.
We hope you can come join us for another massive game at the Anny.
We Go Again.
