Our first defeat of the season yesterday and a deserved one on the day as we just never got going.
Went a goal down after just four minutes when a whipped in ball from the right was misjudged at the back post, and what seemed like an unbalanced header was powered home, a soft goal to concede so early on.
A good response seen us level it up after ten minutes when Tom Douglas jinked inside after receiving the ball on the left hand side and his shot was too strong for the Rammy keeper.
For the next thirty minutes we were very wasteful with our creative players not creating much, Lewis Buckley was leading the line well, but even when bringing lads into play it was too slow, and we wasn't getting at our hosts when in good one v one area's, last ten mins of the half we put Rammy under pressure, with one set piece being cleared of the line and Tom Douglas also having another big opportunity, his attempt tipped over.
HT 1-1
Second half we started very well and in the opening ten minutes of the half pushed Ramsbottom but a swift counter-attack from one of our set plays seen us unravel defensively, and we were cut open way too easy, it was 2-1 Rammy with a deflection beating Theo.
We huffed and puffed for the next ten minutes, but we were way off it creatively and once again were turning it over too easy and again we were punished for it, another poor goal defensively as we were too weak in our one v one battles.
Even worse was to follow with Michael Fitzgerald kicking out at a Rammy player who was time-wasting and in the same incident Tom Douglas followed Fitzy, a sin bin for Dougie due to his constant nagging at the match official, extremely poor from both players and they let there teammates down.
We dug deep and tried to rally, but it was all over as a contest, and we fall to our first defeat of the league season.
FT 1-3
Second-best yesterday and that’s the first time we have said that this season, the lack of discipline was disappointing when we needed the lads most, but we & them will learn from it that’s for sure.
Seven league games into the season and six of them away from home, which is poor scheduling it has to be said, but it also tells you how tough a run it’s been, so it’s hard to be critical of this group of lads after our first blip in the league.
McNamara’s Sports Bar MOM went to Jordan Barrow once again who kept going in the toughest of circumstances and gave his all, a bare minimum when it’s not going your way…
Thanks to all those who travelled once again in great numbers, not been an easy schedule for all those who follow us also and your support has been very much appreciated during this run of away fixtures.
We quickly get the chance to put things right on Bank Holiday Monday as we host Squires Gate 3pm kick off down at the Anny, we hope you can come and join us.
We Go Again.
