A 3-2 defeat away at Bury yesterday with a sloppy first half performance ultimately costing us in the end.
Couldn’t have asked for a better start, scoring after just two minutes when a free-kick was floated in and the headed clearance found Michael Fitzgerald and his shot seen the Bury keeper spilling it into the path of Tom Mitchell who tapped it home.
That delight was short-lived, and we were well off it with and without the ball and over the next 25 minutes Bury bagged three and all very poor from us.
The first one seen Michael Fitzgerald look to win a foul from a high ball and with the referee adjudging it not to be, the Bury man cut back across and sent over what looked a great finish, but ma told deflected past Theo.
Goal number two was poor in all departments, from letting Bury play out with ease from the keeper we were somehow found out of shape and with Sam Burns having to track all the way back to his box he made an attempt to win the ball just inside, all the lads said he won it clearly, but the referee awarded the spot kick which was dispatched.
Number three seen Frazer Cookson dragged out wide and then beaten too easy near the touchline and with a quality cut back across the box it was three and a trick for the impressive Bury number nine.
Bury had us on the ropes and whilst the lads were having moments most were being wasted.
Two big moments seen Tom Croughan have an unbelievable chance to get a goal back, but he could only hit the keeper and then a big penalty call potentially went against us when Sam Burns was brought down inside the box, but I certainly couldn’t tell from where I was.
HT 1-3
The second half was more like the Breck we have seen in recent months, we started to create space, getting in good areas and putting Bury under plenty of pressure but sadly for us our second goal came too late in the day, but it was another cracker all the same.
The impressive Dan Lowey whipped in a delightful ball and Sam Burns headed home a cracker to give us that chance of a fightback, but sadly it wasn’t to be, but it certainly wasn’t for the lack of effort second half.
FT 2-3
Whilst am bitterly disappointed with the first half performance, I was immensely proud of the second as a lot of sides would have capitulated at 3-1 with 60 minutes to go against an impressive Bury side who I have to say the first half didn’t give us any opportunity to play.
With the defeat our unbeaten run going back to the first week of November is over, but it’s been some run of from by the lads, and we will look to pick ourselves up and go on another one starting with the massive home game with West Didsbury on Thursday night.
The McNamara’s Sports Bar MOM went to Dan Lowey who was exceptional once again and the outright stand-out performer on the day…
Couldn’t be prouder of the supporters on the day the noise made from the first to last minute was first class and from myself and the lads we thank you all, and hopefully we can see it repeated at all the games in this massive run in we now have.
Up next, we welcome West Didsbury to the Anny on Thursday night, and we need you more than ever down at the Anny showing your support as we look to stay on course for a promotion / play off place.
We Go Again.
Up The Breck…
