A tough one to take yesterday going down to a late Chester goal and beaten 2-1 on the day.

Our best chance of the first half fell to Luke Gill who seen his scuffed effort cleared of the line.

Chester were asking questions in possession in and around the box but there goal came from us turning the ball over at their end of the pitch with a blind ball.

After moving up the pitch Joe Bickerstaffe was forced into a very good save but with the ball falling back to the Chester man he made no mistake with the second strike.

A half of few chances but we worked our nuts off to make sure we were still in the game going into the second half.

HT 0-1

Once again there wasn’t much in the game in terms of chances with both sides battling for control that was until Chester had a glorious chance make it two, with Ward breaking through on goal he looked certain to score but Joe Bickerstaffe pulled off a stunning save to deny him and in doing so you felt the momentum swinging.

A few changes to personal had the desired effect, and we started to ask more questions higher up the pitch and after one move gave us a corner we got a deserved equaliser.

Will McNulty firing a shot at goal that looked to be blocked by a arm but with the ball falling to Billy Edmondson he was on hand to send it home great scenes followed the goal as it was just what the lads deserved for the they had put into that point.

A big moment came with 88 minutes played when Sam Burns looked to be in down the right, but the flag went up, most people said he wasn’t, and we can watch that back but from the resulting freekick / Next passage of play Chester got the winner.

A ball hung up to the left was frustratingly taken down unopposed and with a cut back to the front post it was a tap in from Butt for his second of the game.

We wasn't done there, and it took a stunning save from the Chester keeper to deny us a replay, Jak McCourt seeing his shot deflected, and it looked like the loop was going to beat the keeper, but he produced a stunner and finger tipped it over the bar.

FT 1-2

Another massive occasion down at the Anny and we took a full time side right to the wire and you can only take the many positives from that performance, now with lads coming back into sqaud after suspension we go back to concentrating on league matters when we host Atherton Colls on Wednesday night.

The Probe Services MOM went to keeper Joe Bickerstaffe who came in on dual reg from FC St Helens, didn’t train or meet the lads and then produced an excellent performance with his save at 1-0 keeping us in the cup tie…

As always a massive thank you to our loyal supporters and those who popped along yesterday to make it another great occasion for the club, obviously the crowd was a little lower than we expected but still those who travelled with Chester were first class and very respectful to all the staff and volunteers and we wish them all well and hope they get a cracker draw Monday afternoon.

To our volunteers a massive thank you for the shifts you all put in on the day, the feedback from all was excellent and even the Police said we had it covered so that says it all.

As mentioned were now back home on Wednesday night when we host Atherton Colls who are in fine form so another tough night but if we bring anything like yesterday’s performance we will be more than good.
