Burns Magic Brace Leaves Breck On The Brink...

Another dramatic ending at the Anny yesterday as two late goals seen off West Didsbury in the play off semi final.

Fair to say West Didsbury were the better side in the first half with their long balls and long throw ins causing problems especially with the big man up top.

It was the big number nine who hit the bar with a header before a long throw in up to him was misjudged and as it bounced across goal it was tapped in from close range.

For us, it was a little too direct and a little flat-footed, and half-time couldn’t have come quick enough to address a few things.

HT 0-1
Second half we looked to start playing on the floor a bit more but with West Dids still working hard to deny us space it was proving tough but when their number eight received a second yellow card for a dangerous high foot that was to change soon after.

Dan Lowey sent the ball down the touchline to the feet of Sam Burns who turned his man and from 25 yards out he hit one low and hard and put it out of reach of the keeper, and he hasn’t stopped there with one of his magic moments.

With Theo starting the move we kept the ball for well over a minute and after 20 passes Lewis Buckley laid it off to Sam Burns and a moment of sheer quality seen Sam hit it first time and the far comer of the net rippled, unbelievable scenes.

It was a nervy last few minutes that seem to take an age, but the comeback was complete

FT 2-1

Once again this group of lads produce when it matters most, and it may have been the individual brilliance of Sam Burns that won us the game, but that’s on the back of the team staying in the game and rising above the pressures, and we secure a shot a Step 4 football next season.

The McNamara’s Sports Bar MOM went to Sam Burns, I’ve said it before and no doubt I’ll say it again, but an exceptional talent, and it’s a pleasure to watch him week on week.

The highest attendance we have had down at the Anny and a massive thank you to not only the Breck regulars but also the turnout from West Didsbury, fantastic support.

Also a hats off to the volunteers who stepped up not only on the day but to the build up to the game also.

So it’s the play off final next Saturday as welcome Padiham with the winner taking a place in the Northern Premier League.

We Go Again.
