Another outstanding team performance from the lads last night to beat Marine 3-0 on another night of truly awful weather down at the Anny.
Playing into the wind first half it was always going to be tough, but we adapted to it well and when we had the opportunities to play we did and were creating some great chances.
We took the lead on 20 minutes when Dan Lowey received a ball from Sam Burns 35 yards out and after jinking past two Marine players he found himself on the edge of the box and hit a cracking strike with he right foot, 1-0 Breck.
Marine had their moments with the wind causing plenty of uncertainty at the back, but it’s fair to say Theo was rarely tested, with most chances skied high or well wide.
Sam Burns was a massive threat throughout the half and just on the stroke of half-time he floated past a few Marine players and with the goal at his mercy he unselfishly chose to lay the ball off to the right and the opportunity was sadly gone.
HT 1-0
Second half, we went straight on the front foot and looked to use the wind to our advantage.
Sam Burns started the half where he left off, pounced on a mistake at the back, and after winning the ball he created an angle for himself before sending a strike home into the bottom corner.
We were going right at Marine, but just as a corner was to be delivered the lights went off, and the players had to leave the pitch for five minutes whilst the issue was fixed (first time in 9 years I’ve seen the lights go off at the Anny)
When we can out we were a little sloppy in possession once or twice but in truth wasn’t troubled with the lads covering the ground after any mistake made and putting in massive shifts all over.
The impressive Jordan Barrow hit a wind assisted strike that went mightly close before Elliot Hughes had the opportunity to wrap the game up, but after creating the space for what looked like an easy finish, he could only hit the keeper.
With a couple of minutes left we did manage to kill the game off, and it was Sam Burns receiving a lay-off from Connor Millington and with the wind behind him, he sent home an unstoppable strike to wrap the game up.
FT 3-0
Another quality showing on an awful night for football, but once again I thought we moved the ball around with real quality at times and were clever in the areas we needed to be, a fantastic performance from the boys.
The McNamara’s Sports Bar MOM went to Jordan Barrow who first half was outstanding, the way he moved the ball in the middle of the park going short and long was done with real quality and opened up the game with every pass.
As is a common occurrence now, a mention for Sam Burns also, two goals and an assist and could have been many more, some player when he on the run.
As always, massive thanks to those in attendance and for braving those conditions and sticking with us whilst we put 50p back in the meter also.
Another big win at the Anny for the club.
It’s a well-earned weekend off for the lads before we host Nelson in the Macron cup next Friday night, we hope you can join us as we look to book our place in the Quarter Final.
We Go Again.
Up The Breck…
