A proud & humbling moment yesterday watching young Alfie leading the Breck out at Anfield Sports today.
Alfie loves his football as do his cracking family and he was buzzing throughout the whole game.
This kid has courage & determination which puts the game into perspective.
We thank his family for bringing him along to today’s game and we was more than delighted to have played our part in his World Record attempt.
We hope to see him at another Breck game very soon.
A little bit about Alfie's campaign
In August 2012 we set up The Alfie Lund Fund with the aim of raising enough funds to buy Alfie a specially adapted bed. Together with the help of some fantastic friends we oraganized a football tournament and famiy fun day. It was a huge success and exceeded all our expectaions. Little did we know it would be the start of something much bigger!
The community of Burscough and beyond has taken Alfie under their wing and we have been incredibly touched by how many people have done amazing things all to raise funds for our little boy.
We have also been lucky enough to be shown some fantastic support from the likes of Liverpool and England Footballer Steven Gerrard, Boxing ledgends Steve Collins and Ricky Hatton and ex-footballer Jimmy Bullard amongst a few.
Wow! Thank you.
We have since been able to purchase a specially adapted bed to meet Alfie's needs, a disability trike, travel bed, eye gaze technology and some sensory toys for Alfie.
Alfie will continue to need specialist items as he grows and his needs change.
With the fantastic support we have and the constant supply of willing people we will be able to have a nest egg for Alfie so that he will be able to have as comfortable a life as he can.
Alfie's fund has gone from strength to strength and we can only thank you for your continued support.
Very close to our hearts is MECP2 Duplication UK. They are a newly founded charity who aim to provide support and assistance to children and families affected by MECP2 Duplication syndrome in the UK.
Here in the UK Alfie is one of only approximately 35 children diagnosed and there is very little known about the disorder so having a source of support and information is vital to newly diagnosed families and those living with the disorder.
Through Alfie's fund we have also raised funds for them which will go towards helping families just like us.
Can we set a Guiness World record?
We set ourselves the challenge of creating the longest chain of football related memorabilia during the 2014/15 football season. Little did we know we would still be being sent items in 2018! We didn't realise the response this would get. Unfortunately Guinness wouldn't accept mixed items but after seeing what we have accumulated so far they set a new record for us to try and achieve....
The longest multiple fan scarf.
To date we have over 1500 scarves and are currently in the process of sewing them all together so we can submit it to Guinness World Records.
So far we have collected over two miles of shirts, scarves and flags!
Once we have submitted it and hopefully broken the world record we will be selling of all the scarves. We can't thank the people who have donated enough. We have already been able to give Mecp2 Duplication UK over £5000 from the sale of football shirts and ground collections.
All money raised will go directly to Mecp2 Duplication UK a charity very close to our hearts to help families just like us, so thank you!
