Double Deflection Takes The Game Away From Us...

2-1 defeat away at Bury yesterday in a game that was decided by a cruel double deflection to beat Theo.

Get the first issue out of the way which was the pitch which was basically soft sand in key areas and in truth was dangerous and unplayable in my opinion but I’ve gotta give major credit to the Bury ground staff who worked on it right up to the first whistle and hats off to each and everyone of them, they done their works after that it was down to the ref and he deemed it playable so it was game on.

Now to the game which wasn’t pretty but both sides gave it a good go.

We had the first big chance of the game with Tom Douglas taking a shot on first time when a touch and hit would have probably been better, Bury went up the other end and skimmed the post & bar in quick succession, we came back at them and Lewis Buckley was inches away from a James Murphy cross.

The opener for Bury seen us deal with the initial corner, but the ball was put back in the mixer and we let there skipper run off us and he had a free header at Theo, one nil Bury and a soft goal for us.

A great response from ourselves and within five minutes we was level.

A direct ball upto Liam Morris seen him knock it down to Lewis Buckley and ignoring the easy option to his left Lewis took a hit and drilled into the bottom corner, a cracking strike from Bucko and his 12th since signing in December.

HT 1-1
Second half was more scrappy than the first and there wasn’t any clear cut chances for both sides and it was always going to be a bit of magic or luck that would see someone get the next goal and it was luck on Bury’s behalf it came from.

A ball out from the back that would usually zip off the surface hitting the sand out on the left and with good work from the Bury winger he cut one back for the player arriving and his shot took two deflections to leave Theo with no chance.

We got into the game a little more and started asking more questions especially from set pieces and then we went for it changing shape which left us open to the counter and Bury had two big chances to extend the lead late on but both were fluffed.

We kept going but just couldn’t find that one moment that would have seen us take a point home, maybe not a deserved one but one you wouldn’t have argued with on the balance of the game overall as there wasn’t much init and both keepers were largely untested.

FT 1-2

My only disappointment on the day was ease we turned the ball over at times and you can’t do that against any side let alone a Bury side who boast plenty of quality and composure in there ranks, but that said you gotta praise our lads for there massive shifts and on another day we come away with something.

Montage Memorabilia MOM went to Connor Miilington who worked tirelessly in the middle of the park and as the game opened up didn’t stop going back to goal to cover the counters. A big shift from Millo…

As always our supporters do us proud and it was lump in mouth moment at the end with the lads and supporters clapping each other, moments like that make you realize how far we have come as a club.

Next up it’s another title challenger as we welcome Wythenshawe to the Anny as we look to avenge an away defeat when the linesman bagged himself an assist on the day.

Hope you come join us as we look to bounce straight back.

We Go Again.

Up The Breck…❤️
